I Have Been A Victim Of Unfair Punishments At School

Right, I don't think this is the right heading for this, but I don't care. Me and numerous others are all in the same situation with this, and I'm going to start a revolution to (hopefully) change parents' attitudes a bit! So anyone who's a parent sit back at try to understand this for our point of view...

In quite a few cases if a child/teenager gets into trouble at school then we get punished at school. But those of us with stricter parents get punished again at home. So in effect we've been punished TWICE for the same thing. However, what is really unfair is the punishment at home is usually even harsher than if we'd done the same thing at home. So not only are we getting doubly punished, we're getting even more than that!

So, how can that be fair? Mess up at home, get punished once. Mess up the same away from home, get punished harsher. Mess up the same at school at get punished even harsher again, as well as suffering whatever the school want to dish out.

Now, don't get me wrong - I'm not saying I don't deserve any punishment, because that would just be completely stupid! BUT why does the level of punishment vary so much?

I can't say why your parents feel that the punishment needs to harsher when you misbehave at school or while away from home.

Here it would depend on what you were in trouble for. For example getting a detention wouldn't be punished any further unless you were getting detentions for the same thing all the time or you'd lied about having homework done then got a detention for not handing it in because you hadn't done it in the first place, but getting suspended from school would be no picnic as you'd be grounded for at least the duration of the suspension and possibly longer. A grounding here means no access to electronics unless it's for school work, early bedtime and plenty of extra chores to keep you busy. My kids are also very aware that whining about being grounded or pleading to be let off can lead to extra days being added. When they were younger it would have meant a smacked bottom, but now that they're all older it's an extension of the grounding instead. The same goes for further bad behaviour whilst grounded.

@liondog Oh I've had extra time added onto a grounding before. Also a grounding means zero tolerance, so it's my best behaviour - or else! No warnings at all! It also means no phone or laptop, except for homework, and basically no life. Which again is a double punishment!!

@Katy03 I think for my kids the fact that they lose all of their electronics when they do get grounded is the worst part of the punishment. Sure, they dislike the early bedtimes and extra chores, but losing their electronics is a fate worse than death.

I guess you'd rather just get a smacking and get it over and done with? Hope this isn't something that's on your mind now because you've been in trouble for something.

@liondog No, I haven't been in any trouble. Just been chatting to a few girls my age and we are all wondering. We are gonna be martyrs for future generations by changing parental attitudes!!!

Good luck.

@liondog We might need it... If you can donate plenty of cushions, that may be useful! 😳
