Schools need to be able to implement discipline to create an environment conducive to learning. Corporal punishment is the quickest and most effective form of discipline.

@harveyrider Some UK schools exempted girls from CP, thus tacitly admitting they didn't need to use it. As they must have had other methods of disciplining girls that they had total confidence in, they could have used those same methods with boys. The fact that they chose to beat boys instead strongly suggests an ulterior motive - such as being abusive perverts.
