I Received Corporal Punishment At School

@NankerPhelge It all depended where you went to school and the type of school. Firstly you are nearly 20 years younger than me and by that time the cane was not being used so much. It was only private schools by this time that used the cane on the bottom where as state schools used it mostly, but not always on the hands. Some did use it on the bottom and required it to be bared. It was mostly the private prep schools (8-13) that used the cane and wwre often all boys school. These schools had traditions going back many years where the cane was used and due to the thick trousers/shorts that were worn at the time they had to come off to make the cane effective. Many boys never use to wear underpants so by dropping trousers/shorts a bare bottom was presented for caning. To make it fair fair for all the vaat number of schools made the rule that the cane woukd be used on the bare bottom. It became tradition. As time moved on those that had been using the cane ceased but those that kept it still did it on the bare bottom.

@chikki I went to school in North Wales and left in 1978. It was not an all-boys school.

@NankerPhelge by 1978 with the start of STOPP some schools moved away from cp and in the stare system heads were advisrd to cane on the hands rather than the bottom. This was not the case in private schools, which tended to be single sex, and it was common for boys to get it bare...do remember we are talking about boys up to 13 and not seniors.

@NankerPhelge sorry...a typo....it should be "state" not "stare" The plimsoll was in common use and some teachers use to use it. It tended to be used mostly by pe teachers. Most times it was done on shorts (no pants were worn for PE) but at times it was cracked aross the bare bottom in the changing rooms. Some teachers used a house slipper with the top cut off which had a very thick but flexible leather sole. As boy i had this whacked a few times across my bottom, but i think all but once it was applied o my bare bottom.

@NankerPhelge it is only a "r" in stead of a "t" and are next to each other on the key board. Six of the slipper was a lot as after about three whacks the bottom becomes numb and all the other whacks do is bruise, which was not the idea. You say it never hurt on trousers which is one of te reasons teachers , certainly pe teachers, used it on the bare bottom. It was done as boys were coming or going to the showers or if in the gym it was "shorts down and over the box" then it was 2 or 3 very hard whacks with the slipper on the bare bottom in view of the whole class.

I didn't tell the teachers it didn't hurt, I told the other lads that. They thought I was trying to appear tougher than I really was, but what I really meant was that it was nothing compared with my dad's slipperings at home.

@NankerPhelge try....but at my age my sight is not as good as it should be so mistakes like this occur.
Their was a big differance between getting whacked at home and getting it at school. At school their were rules as to how hard you could be whacked and more importantly how many. You were , as a rule, told how many you were going to get before you bent over. At home you bent over and your bare bottom was at the mercy of dad as to how hard he was going to hit you and the number of whacks. In most cases you never knew when you bent over how many he was going to give and you just had to keep your bottom in position until told to stand up.

@NankerPhelge With that number i expect that your bottom was tender for some time and bruised....mind you it depended on just how flexible the slipper was. The more it flexed on contact the less it was inclined to bruise. Interesting that your dad did it on each cheek and this did seem common both at school and home. As a deputy, the slipper i used had been in use since 1926. It was a massive size 12 and i use to do it right across both cheeks each time. Even on the bigger built boys it tended to get most of the bottom each time.

@chikki 1926 was three years before my dad was even born. Lol :)

My dad's slippers had red leather uppers and flexible but tough black plastic soles. My bottom felt like it was on fire after a good bare bottom slippering from my dad.

@NankerPhelge after getting slippered your bottom did feel that it was on fire. More so if the slipper had a leather sole and was used bare. Intersting you use the word "good" as that is the last thing it was, but boys did use it. Nothing good about bending over and having a few hsrd whacks with the slipper on the bare bottom
