I Witnessed Corporal Punishment At School

It was abolished a few years after I left and I thought it would lead to worse standards of behavior. I feel I was right. At least the good kids could get on with lessons and bullies feared authority then.

Discipline starts in the home. If parents are not willing to discipline their own kids they are too be blamed for their behaviour. Spanking is the best punishment because it clearly defines where the boundary between right and wrong lies. Kids need to know where and what the boundaries are.

@ASouthernGentleman Agreed, but I think you also need consistent discipline in schools. In my day at school in the UK, everyone knew that if they misbehaved in a serious way they would be caned. Nowadays, the worst a school can do is tell the parents, which might in some cases mean a spanking or caning at home, but in many cases will mean nothing very much at all. And as CathyUK points out, those who suffer are really the good and well disciplined kids.

Yes, you do. However,it is the primary duty of the parent to teach their children right from wrong. Not the schools.
