I Witnessed Corporal Punishment At School

Back in the late 1960s I taught for a term at a boys' prep school before going up to university. One morning, the matron came into the staff room and announced "P****** was caned last night". What I remember particularly was the slight lascivious smirk on her face as she said it. I assume the boy was actually caned by the headmaster, but I'm sure the matron wished she could have administered the caning herself.

I know definitely one class mistress was feared for punishing boys. Was the Matron married do you know?

@CathyUK Gosh yes, hard-faced would be a good description for my matron colleague, some of the time at least. I should think she had a hard hand too!

Did the mistress you mention punish you, or did she stick to boys?

@MartinII No she never punished me, she did ruler a girl on her hands, which was rare for her. Boys she went to town on.
