I Administered Corporal Punishment As A Teacher

I am a retired teacher and headmaster. I taught in the days when corporal punishment was still permitted and in schools where it was frequently used. I helped create a disciplined school and assisting in providing first class education to the pupils.

It's the quality of education that fails to get mentioned when the do-gooders get wound up at the mere suggestion of the reintroduction of corporal punishment. They don't appreciate that a teacher can't do their job when their surroundings resemble a zoo! And schools these days are more akin to a bad day in Aleppo!! I'm not saying things were perfect in my time at school (1983-88) but they were for more orderly and conducive to learning than these days.

Hello Sir, Just found this old thread. I was a boy at school in the 1970s and very early 80s and received corporarl punishment, I agree that it should be reinstated. It helps boys' discipline and focus on the task in hand. I got the slipper and cane from prep school throughs enior school, I was even caned once in the 6th form due to direct disobedience. Fully deserved

I went to a school like that and fully support your statement. My bottom was frequently warmed by the slipper or cane so speak from experience.

They certainly do. My wife was a deputy Head when caning stopped and she noticed the difference in student attitudes quite quickly. She used the cane as much on girls as boys and no special treatment given for girls.
I always thought it was wrong when boys got caned on their bottoms but the girls got a shorter cane on their hands for the same offence. I felt sorry for the girls then because the cane on the hands was awful and dangerous.
