I Had Corporal Punishment At School

I grew up as an ex pat in Botswana and attended an extremely strict school where corporal punishment was frequently used. I know it is out of fashion now, but I received a wonderful education.

I also have no regrets even though the slipper and the tawse are out of favour today. The education was superb and the occasional whack did not damp our spirits for very long. I wonder if future generations will change their opinions?

It was very much the norm when I was growing up. Every day there would be several punishments in class, but it worked. It is very sad that schools have abolished corporal punishment now.

My school had excellent teachers and strict discipline. Any behaviour that interfered with lessons was dealt with by an immediate strapping.

I was an extremely angry child because my dad used to whip me, throw his boots at me ,and hit and scream at me when he thought I had misbehaved. My dad taught me to use violence and anger when people didn't meet up to my standards.
I spend years unlearning what he taught me.

Ejtoo, corporal punishment is now illegal in schools in the UK where I now live. Is it used frequently at your school?
