ok...dumb question coming up....

when i was a kid in the 80s we had 1 or 2 school dances a year. when i lived in ontario at the time junior high went from grade 6-8..in bc it was 8-10. but they threw on school dances and i miss that social interaction we had. they always had a dj and or a live band...this was even before high school that was grades 11-12 in my time...i graduated in '89....but do they still have these today?

@beermeplease me too lol
@GoFish nah?...really? 🤭
I wish society had them in general.

My mum used to speak of the Saturday night dance, (although she called it something else but i forget the name).
It was a whole 'thing'.

People went not just to dance, but socialize, get out, meet up, hang with friends.

You'd put on your smartest threads, twirliest dresses and all go have fun.

Its so sad we've lost such a thing.

The school i work at doesn't have them.
I think its mostly to do with the extreme bureaucracy these days.
ANYTHING out of school hours or off school property requires THAT MUCH paperwork, risk coverage, form signing, volunteer hours and just over the top bullshit to cover any and every little thing that could go wrong because....if it does -
- parents will sue schools for the pettiest of things - even if its their own kids fault.

Its just considered too high risk.

We had a matriculation ceremony in high school. The main part was the program older students prepared for the newcomers, usually various games but after that there were dances.

My kids high schools didn’t have school dances. And the moms from parent council told me the reason is that they caught some kids in the stairwell having sex while they were having a school dance so they banned school dances after that
@Jenny1234 when i went to bal....m...we had one when i was in grade 6..i remember it to this day. i remember dancing to stairway to heaven with lisa and i fell in love with her....but i moved back to bc a short time later...but we had dances in grades 8-10...fun times

I graduated in 1980. We definitely had them.
@Musicman those were fun times... it molded us in who we became

@beermeplease Yes they did. 😊

I'm going to fair a guess here and say today's world has become so anti-openly social that they don't even think of such things these days. I recently read where some high school in the early 2000s, stopped having dances because the attendance went down to 26 students.
@Gibbon i'm gonna agree, thats why i asked the question
dumb question coming up = AGAIN 🤪
@ShenaniganFoodie dumb reply to an aussie,,,, crikey ya khunt...that may be a bit scottish too, but ya get the point ☺
