Has anyone stumbled across people who only come up to you for money? And all you ever wanted was friendship?

I had a classmate from my private university, she would rant to me about wanting to be close to another classmate during our study session. In my mind, I was hoping we would grow close but realized during a time of exam period, she gave me a hint and in exchange, she wanted me to give her an airplane coupon discount for her travels. Another moment, I complimented her nails and she said that she does nails for profit. And i stopped interacting with her. She starts sitting in others spaces and looks away at me when we pass by, used to be friendly and approachable. Yet, now I don't associate money with friendship because I had bad experiences with people mistreating me. I really just wanted to be friends with her not be a customer or a bank to withdraw. It's a shame and makes me feel disappointed. However, a part of me feels glad to not be friends with that kind of person.
