I suspect that stuff has been going on for centuries however only has been prosecuted in the last 20 years.

I think about when I was in Boy Scouts. The Troop Master would have fit the typical profile however was a wonderful man. Long distance trucker, married, fifties, no kids, they lived in a beautiful mobile home in a well taken care of park. Was a big guy, kind of quite stern but nice. He bought land in the mountains, built a rustic “cabin” if it could be called that with his own hands and money. Took up for weekend trips in addition to the irregular sponsored BSC trips. We had a great time. Running around the woods, playing in the creek, building snow forts, cooking over an open fire. The wooden bunks were three high. Heat was from a 50 gallon drum fired by wood he constructed. Never a hint of anything bad or suspicious looking back and discussed with friends who were there.

Just a nice man enjoying time with young men, teaching, working his butt off and spending a lot of his own money.

@jackjjackson Well he didn’t cross any boundaries so yes he was wonderful to do that. I think in such cases there needs to be someone else a the camp, a parent or two, though. There are too many out there wanting to take advantage of kids when there are not parents or other adults around.

Now that you mention it there was. The father of two of the other kids. I’ve wracked my brain trying to think of anything remotely improper and come up with zero. It was a great experience. He got me to be an Eagle Scout. It’s sad that few kids are in the Boy Scouts today. @cherokeepatti

@jackjjackson That’s the way it should be but these days you can’t take chances with children….so many predators out there and they like to get jobs and volunteer where underage children are present. In a perfect world we could have so many things for them and not have to worry about it.

For sure. Horrible situation. @cherokeepatti
