I've no problem with places having different names in different countries. Itnever stopped me getting a flight back to Edimburgo. The reason for suddenly changing a name can be a bit off though.
In the UK, we used to call the North Sea the German Ocean. I think we changed it to North Sea during one of our disputes.
I think the French get a bit sniffy about the English Channel though this is generally just called the Channel in general speak.
