How can i help a child who is extremely behind in school?

After the separation we decided to split the kids,
So my ex husband got custody of one child,
He went back to his country and i just found out the child did not attend school for the last 3 years! 😤
After much struggled he will bring my child home next week but I feel so bad because my son is 13
How can he attend school, I'm so worried he is 3 years behind. Im upset with my ex husband but right now my concern is my child and helping him feel confident but three years behind, i had some sleepless nights over this. How can i help, any teachers out there

Just because he hasn't attended school for three years, it doesn't automatically place him "three years behind".

He's been learning something over the last three years of his life because children are always learning.

Talk to his teachers and have him tested for which grade he's at before you start worrying too much about getting him caught up with his peers.

He might not need too much work unless he's struggled with the core subjects prior to being withdrawn from school, but you will have to work together with the school to help him to catch up on any shortcomings in any case.
