True story.
In 4th grade we’d get called in pairs to the blackboard to do math problems. The one that finished first (with the correct answer) got to hit the other with a yardstick.
Hard or soft, their choice.
That wouldn’t fly today. There’d be lawsuits, firings, therapy, internet/news/tv camera coverage of the incident…
If you were talking in class, the teacher would just throw an eraser at you. Problem solved.
Now we’re soft. Teachers have been emasculated by ignorant parents and Karens. Frankly, I don’t know why they even bother to enter the profession today.

*faceplant* That is how I felt whenever my algebra teacher demanded that I show my work. I gave her all of the right answers, but the work to get there was locked inside my brain.
