What if your boyfriend/girlfriend doesn’t even text you or send you a message for a week… do you break up?

outside of a reason like - death of relative… Is ‘it’s a busy time’ a good enough excuse?

No, that would not be a good excuse. Even in very busy times, you can always find time for at least one text a day to the person that matters most to you.
