I've had a couple get away.
The love of my life, from my late teen to really early 20's. I was messed up and drunk and cheated on her with her bestfriend. I confess to her and didn't even ask for her forgiveness because I felt in my heart that what I had done was unforgivable. We broke up of course.
A year and a half later I was engaged to be married to my second love and the first called, but I told her that I was getting married. 24 years later my wife passed.
