No but have been too close for comfort several times in my life. Yikes. My sister got bit by a copperhead snake when we were young and helping burn two huge brush piles that had been sitting out for about 2 months. We were dragging more branches to the pile as it was burning and that snake crawled out and bit her on the ankle. It very well could have been me because we were about 10 feet apart when it happened.

@cherokeepatti I have never seen a copperhead in the wild, but I'm pretty sure a lot of copperheads have seen me...Thanks for your reply.

@Atlotto my ex husband got a job clearing a wooded acreage about 3 miles down the road from where we lived and for a man who wanted to build a custom built home there. He was bulldozing blackjack oak trees into piles. Then cutting them up for firewood with a chainsaw for the man who was wanting to use it after their house was built. One afternoon a copperhead stuck its head up and he said he went running backwards to get away and the chainsaw was still on when he stopped.

Then one afternoon I drove over to bring him food and he said there was a spring he was getting water from. We walked down a little trail and he says “Stop!”. There were 4 copperheads sunning themselves next to the trail. He told me to go back and get the shovel out of his truck while he watched them. I did and he killed three and the fourth one slithered away.

Then one day his boss and wife invited us to go with them to Howard Johnson restaurant for the all-you-can-eat fish or clams dinner. So we did. Her husband went to the restroom after we made our order. My ex started talking bout the copperheads he had killed and seen. The wife said she was scared of snakes. Ended up she didn’t want to move to that snaky area and likely never go the home built. My ex got fired about a month later. Than man was so pissed at him that he put off giving him his W-2 form to file his taxes until the day they were due even after phone calls. We didn’t get the taxes dropped off until 2 hours before midnight. Was probably for spite to do that.

@NativePortlander1970 Well, I also have a 92 for backup.

@Atlotto Nice weapon, looks to be Italian made judging by its box and cleaning brushes.
@Atlotto My current every day carry, my Bersa Thunder .380...

@Musicman I bet you're holding back on more firepower than you post here. 😉
@Musicman The judge is a great sidearm for the brush.
@Musicman However, for the shotgun You would have to have it at ready at all times, and can get heavy after awhile, slowing down your response.

@NativePortlander1970 Not if we are in the yard and I go get the gun and he is still there when I get back.
@Musicman True
Musicman · 61-69, M
@NativePortlander1970 I actually looked at getting a shotgun just for that purpose.
@Musicman Personally I'm not a fan of shotguns, too messy
Musicman · 61-69, M
@NativePortlander1970 That is definitely true. Can't argue with that.
@Musicman Plus I faced a 12 gauge when I was 18, long story

@Atlotto He had been calling and asking for it for over a month too. Could have turned him into to the IRS for that
