That looks like a water moccasin. Thank God you and the little man did not get bitten and yes rest in Peace/Pieces in a hole I dug for it.

@WillaKissing there are small lakes around this area. A lady who lived a couple blocks away 20 years ago said she drained her water garden pond because she was taking it with her when she moved. Went out to check it and there laid a big old water moccasin. I don’t know why a water moccasin would choose a tiny water garden over a lake but apparently it did.

@cherokeepatti Easy hunting when birds and mice come to get a drink. Eww I just do not like snakes.

@WillaKissing it was a moccasin I think that's why it's so mind &$#@ing the baby picked it up

@WoWgirll Thank God he was not bitten!

@WoWgirll Water moccasins are pretty chill compared to other venomous snakes. We used to have them on our shallow creek on the farm and we played in the creek about 10-15 yards from a cluster of them.

@cherokeepatti my house is surrounded by creeks and lakes

Let a kid pick it up without hissing @cherokeepatti

@WoWgirll We were taught to stay back away from them. They never approached us even one time. When we’d walk down the road and almost get to the creek every one of them in their cluster of a dozen or so would open their mouths to warn us to stay away.

@cherokeepatti I'm a redneck we throw snakes on each other sometimes. Killing a venomous snake is considered the masculine and responsible thing to do.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@WoWgirll My uncle would never kill a snake on the farm because they kill so many mice. And mice if left to reproduce at will could empty a grain bin. But then he was burning off the weeds in a pasture and got bit on the hand by a rattlesnake. He killed every snake he saw after that. I don’t think he messed with the water moccasins though.

@cherokeepatti I leave the rat snakes and gardener snakes alone for the nice. but venomous snakes I do not. I have killed several copper heads so far around my farm.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@WillaKissing Hope you leave the King snakes alone too…they will eat venomous snakes and so do possums.
WillaKissing · 56-60, M
@cherokeepatti I do not know if we have King snakes in Ohio. I have never seen any. Hanks and turkeys and owls eat snakes too. No wild pigs in my area but they eat snakes too.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@WillaKissing Too bad, maybe someone should bring some of them up there. They can adapt to a lot of environments…even desserts. Roadrunners will attack and kill snakes too.

@cherokeepatti I say let God put what species he wants where he knows best., and I do not want any issues with the department of natural resources in Ohio.
