Identify it ("Hey, Marvin--is that you?").
If non-venomous, pick it up, place it in a burlap bag, take it to an appropriate location away from people.
If venomous, change lower clothing (from crapping my pants), and--if lesser poisonous--try to get it like actual snake handlers and get it into a container which can be verified as closed & close it.
If VERY dangerous, call animal control.

Pick it up and put it outside where it belongs. The only snakes we have around here are none venomous so they pose no danger to humans or pets. They are kind of cute though.

It has happened twice for me. I caught them and put them outside. My wife found a small one when I wasn't home, and she swept it outside with a broom.
