Born a Spanish princess, she married King Denis of Portugal at a young age. She is celebrated as a devoted peacemaker, famously riding onto the battlefield to stop a war between her husband and their son. After her husband's death, she retired to a Franciscan monastery, dedicating her life to the poor and the sick.
