Santa Chiara was the younger daughter of a nobleman of Assisi, who befriended Sant Francesco, who was the son of a cloth merchant who had fought in the internecine wars of the Italian states during the Middle Ages. They set up the Franciscan Brotherhood and the Poor Clares monastic orders.

I am like Chiara in that I have left my family idyll to live among poor men and women, only my friends are dancers and performers, and although things were very difficult at first we are now triumphing in the city where we live.
