THAT is awesome! One of my favorite charities is St. Joseph's Indian school in South Dakota.
Pine Ridge reservation is not the best place for kids to grow up. Lots of gangs, and alcoholism. In the newsletters I receive from the school, one of the saddest things is that some of the people live so far away from the nearest bit of civilization in their tiny trailers. Often they have no heat and very little food.
One of the worst stories I heard was about a 5 year old little girl who lived in just such a trailer with her drunken mother. She was surviving by eating uncooked Ramen noodles straight from the package. Her mother never showed her that they had to be boiled in water.

@4meAndyou It hurts my heart so much when I see what these people live through. They've been trampled on from the beginning & it just makes me sick. The Navajo Nation in NM is the very same way.

@Tumbleweed PART of the problem is that they have decided to remain as a cohesive whole, rather than assimilating. They are apportioned free land on the Rez, and there are no jobs.
