The Church of England

Edward Gibbon once wrote six volumes on the decline and fall of the Roman Empire. I'm now going to attempt to describe the state of The Church of England by the single story. Today a friend on chat told me about his meeting with a dean somewhere of the said flock of youngish, bright eyed canons and vicars and that my friend told the dean that he personally loved the traditions of liturgy and that even stain glass windows did serve a purpose once and perhaps still today. He got the respondse of the dean in question that perhaps there should be constructed one for Snoopy then. This is what there is at present of fishers of men and women. The poverty of it is immense

Anglicanism is increasing in Africa and Asia, is holding steady in some other parts of the world, but has fallen drastically in England and North America, perhaps in step with their general moral decline.

@SpudMuffin All organized religions, Amen.

@Thinkerbell only a matter of time before there’s a Filipino Pope, or Brazilian .
I'm an Anglican. The state of the church is horrendous but there are still some Gospel centred Anglican churches.

I want the gospel, not a political lecture so my main church is a baptist one and my wife is a baptist too.

@BritishFailedAesthetic There are basically two strains of thought pulling the church to pieces. One lot think that they represent traditionalists and call out for turning back the so-called too liberal reforms. The other lot takes the banner up to simplify everything so that everyone will be happy
@SunshineGirl I disagree with any political message in church, as the gospel of Christ is not political.

But you are bang on right about child safeguarding, it needs a new series of procedures.

The church my wife and I attend has police safeguarding posters everywhere.

@BritishFailedAesthetic One can't just switch off like that. Then it's really like don't look, there's nothing going on. Eleven years ago the Michael Ramsey prize went to a book that tried help the situation but there's no more health. Have a look around on social media and see how groups inside the church treat it oh so political. On the matter of safeguarding, it's also much more than about children. I did the courses and know many friends who had much more that has been redflagged

Do you think the gospel can be found in the Church of England now? I don't think the gospel can be found in the church of Sweden anymore. God has maybe abandoned those churches and expect us to witness the hope in us on the web?
I love the candles and the rituals that use to mean so much pulling our hearts to Jesus, the Savior of the world. Now the focus is on people rather than on God.
@Carazaa No, as in they actually preach sin and the Gospel.

@BritishFailedAesthetic I hope all of England are in those Godly churches every Sunday 😊
@Carazaa Sadly not!

You've brought it on yourselves.

The price of the inequities of Empire and hypocrisy.

The only reason Spain isn't in the empire business anymore is that they lost some wars along the way, and their business model (mercantilism) was bad.

And what did they leave behind in their former Latin American colonies? Mostly a succession of tin-horn dictators in countries that can hardly be called democracies to this day. BTW, how are the Trujillos doing these days? At least your capital isn't named after one of them any more.
And I guess you're doing better than your neighbor to the west; but Haiti was a French colony, and I bet your border with them is very secure, not like the US southern border with Mexico.

And yes, I already know your feelings about Yankee/English imperialism, but somehow you never got around to answering my question about the Mongols or the Moors.

With respect to the latter, I recall a Spanish expression, "no hay moros en la costa," which fairly well summarizes how the Spaniards felt about being under Moorish domination for some 700 years, but then they said, "Hey, if the Moors can do it, so can we, can't we?" 🤭

And finally, in tribute to your ill temper:

@Thinkerbell I don't care about your question about the Mongols or whatever. It's clearly a Red Herring to the main issue in question.

@GeistInTheMachine

Someone of Spanish origin who "doesn't care" about the Moorish occupation of Spain?
Tsk, tsk.

You're back to your customary dodging, I see. 😂 🤣 😂 🤣 😂

There's another chain of thought that says that when everyone is in total agreement with no sign of discord.......something is wrong!

😀
val70 · 51-55
@LesDawsonsPiano And that in the age of Trump 🙄
