There are of course lots of non-canonical gospels. Some suppressed because they were regarded s heretical and some ignored because they were obviously unreliable. I rather like the Infancy Gospel of Thomas supposedly written by Thomas the Philosopher concerning the childhood of the Lord. In it Jesus goes around murdering his playmates and striking people blind. Makes him seem a bit more human somehow.
After that again he went through the village, and a child ran and dashed against his shoulder. And Jesus was provoked and said unto him: Thou shalt not finish thy life. And immediately he fell down and died. But certain when they saw what was done said: Whence was this young child born, for that every word of his is an accomplished work? And the parents of him that was dead came unto Joseph, and blamed him, saying: Thou that hast such a child canst not dwell with us in the village: or do thou teach him to bless and not to curse: for he slayeth our children
@Adstar Rather than being regarded as heretical like The Gospels of Philip, Thomas and Mary, I think this was just regarded as a bit of fictional nonsense even by the early church. It remained popular right up to the Middle Ages. There were popular folk songs right up to the nineteenth century featuring Jesus killing his playmates like The Bitter Withy - ‘Then up the hill and down the hill three rich young mothers ran, crying Mary Mild take home your child, for ours he’s killed each one’.
