Why do you suppose God might have created animals to suffer?

With the idea in mind that humans suffer as a result of falling into sin....why would God make it so the animals suffer as well?
Are they being punished?
Thoughts?

lol well based on reading the Bible which is the place we can learn about the character of god....yeah i think so.
But i'm interested in the in fiction rationalization.

Sin ??
What Sin?
@Prince0217

Yeah animals didn't sin. So why do they have to suffer?

@Pikachu Yeah. Why do living things have to suffer?
@Prince0217

I don't know. Doesn't seem necessary, benevolent or even rational to make an animal suffer. It's not like they can learn from it or have some kind of spiritual growth and they certainly did nothing to deserve it.
Seems like cruelty for cruelty's sake.

Doesn't make a lot of sense, does it
@Akimbo75

It really doesn't. Like what possible benefit is there? At least with humans you could argue that it's some kind of test or judgement or something. But animals didn't do anything and can't learn or grow spiritually so...wtf
