I grew up as a Roman Catholic. My British pioneer great-grandparents could not find the Church of England in their new community when they moved to Iowa and began farming.
My great-grandmother insisted her children had to have SOME sort of religious training. Grudgingly, my great-grandfather drove all 12 of his children to the Catholic church for services, but he absolutely refused to sit down inside the church himself. He would stand in the back.
