Eye of the needle?
Matthew 19:24
As I said in one of my previous posts, at Church one Sunday, a very posh lady who was the guest preacher's wife came and she was dressed very elegantly- and by posh I mean Joanna Lumley posh- off the scales posh 🤭 She never worked a day in her life and her husband had worked as a succesful city businessman, giving them significant wealth.
So do people like her and her husband get excluded from heaven, even if they come to Christ?
Mattthew 19: 25-26
Not at all! My Reformation Study Bible points out that back in Jesus's day it was a commonly held belief that rich people were more favoured by God and what Jesus was doing was turning this idea upside down. It even dares to suggest from the next verses Jesus is referring to everyone, emphasising the rich for effect due to the beliefs in his day.
Isn't that great news? Everyone can come to Christ to get eternal salvation- from the undocumented immigrants who are trying to improve their quality of life to the wealthy family who throw extravagant bashes at the Country club 🤭
I didn't plan to include this but as I was preparing my porridge I chuckled about the diversity in preaching too- from that wealthy woman's husband (his body language when speaking to you, forcing your best interpersonal skills and making sure your body language is open 🤭) preaching about temptation in our Christian walk, to the chubby diamond geezer (UK definition of 'geezer' not the American one) who managed to slip in an incident into his preaching, about a time when he was goofing around and accidentally shot his mate with an Air Rifle!
Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.

When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible
