I don't know enough about the old or new testament or the Quran to say anything about it. I've been told by some Muslim friends that Jesus is in the Quran but he's a prophet, not the son of God.

Im only chiming in here because I have a question that has been puzzling me for a while. Technically speaking, since Jesus is the son of God, isn't it a violation of the 10 Commandments to pray to Jesus? Also to wear the crucifix?
Adstar · 56-60, M
@Jayciedubb
Jesus is God made manifest in the flesh..

(1 Timothy 3:16) "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory."

Jesus was called the Son of God because of the way God created the Body Jesus used while He achieved His mission on earth..

(Luke 1:35) "And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God."

And wearing a cross ( not a crucifix ) is not a sin..
Jayciedubb · 56-60, M
@Adstar thanks for the reply. But I'm not sure i can accept that as concrete proof. I've heard many of my Christian friends say we're all gods children. And that God created man (and women) in his image.

I assume those references were from the New Testament. This might be a dumb question, but is there anything written about it in the old testament?

Here's what I'm getting at, wouldn't that be one hell of a trick to play on Humanity, to get everybody to be violating the Ten Commandments, religiously and , under their own free will? That one that God gave us that would be the way to do it because it's so close but technically a violation.
sree251 · 41-45, M
@Jayciedubb It's a violation to the Muslims who don't worship Jesus as Christians do. Muslims mind their own business and take no issues with Christians and their form of religious practice.
Jayciedubb · 56-60, M
@sree251 uhh ..hmmmm ...are we talking about the same thing here? Im talking about the 10 Commandments, which aren't recognized by Muslims. Im talking about it possibly being a violation of the first Commandment by praying to the son of God as if he's God himself. Mullims don't pray to Jesus at all so how could they be seen as being in violation of anything im talking about?

As far as Muslims having no issues wity Christians, why isn't there a single church within the entire Kingdom of Saudi arabia? What started the Crusades?
sree251 · 41-45, M
@Jayciedubb If a muslim worships Jesus as God the way Christians do, then that muslim is out of order. This doesn't happen because muslims know what is what.

The Crusades was a Christian campaign to rid the holy land of crazy people.
Jayciedubb · 56-60, M
@sree251 the Crusades started when the Moors invaded Europe.

If a Muslim worships Jesus as God that would make him a Christian. It's called converting. It happens all the time and could happen in any religion. It's because we have that free will that God gave us.

"Muslims know what is what" ..to which muslims are you referring? Sunnis or Shia?

The point of my question was to shed light on a valid possibility, ( validity pertaining to the faithful) that worshiping Jesus like a god may be an acceptable sin but a sin never the less. It would be one hell of a trick to play on otherwise good hearted people. Who would ever say anything against the practice? There's so much momentum behind the practice that to speak against it would be considered evil and maybe doing the devils work, which actually works to strengthen the practice if worshiping Jesus, the son of God. The SON of GOD. If Jesus is really just a son of God then worshiping him is a violation of the first Commandment. To wear Jesus on a necklace around your neck would be a violation of the second Commandment. Maybe the devil has been working his trick since Jesus died on the cross . I mean, why wear the instrument of torture and death as a symbol of love?

Think about Jesus being your son and you just witnessed his gruesome death, how would you prefer to remember and honor him? I lost my sister to heroin. The last thing i want to be reminded of are hypodermic needles when i think about her. My brother hung himself to death. The last thing i want to remember about him is a hangmans noose. .. I'm just saying, from a Mortals perspective it wouldn't be that hard to pull off. And come judgment day, this is my story and I'm sticking to it
sree251 · 41-45, M
@Jayciedubb Why are you so hung up about how Christians regard Jesus? There are so many different theologies within Christendom. Religious worship is a personal thing.
Jayciedubb · 56-60, M
@sree251 am i not a person? (I am, btw. you're going to have to take my word for it as i take yours for you) Maybe I'm "so hung up about" it because I'm not satisfied with any of the answers I've been given to explain it. Besides, isn't what makes people so religious their propensity to get hung up on the issues?

Forgive me for being religiously agnostic as i continue my search for answers
sree251 · 41-45, M
@Jayciedubb Ok, I get it. You are perplexed by religious practices you observed and want answers. Are you wondering why everyone is going about it differently? You walk into a place of religion and you see some doing walking meditation, some are walking upside down on their hands, and some are levitating. I don't think their is a one true faith and everybody is walking in lockstep into God's arms. This is why some folks stay away from religion. They think it's nuts. I suspect you feel the same way too.

@Jayciedubb
@Adstar thanks for the reply. But I'm not sure i can accept that as concrete proof.

My reply was a biblically based one showing why Christians see Jesus as God and why We worship Him and why one of His titles is The Son of God.. Of course you can chose to believe or disbelieve the report of scriptures.. Makes me wonder what if any kind of reply you could ever see as concrete proof.. Maybe a direct visit to you from the LORD Jesus would suffice? Maybe even then you would put it down to a hallucination and not see a direct visit from Jesus Himself to be concrete.. My experience is that if someone does not want to believe something then no report about it will suffice..

I've heard many of my Christian friends say we're all gods children. And that God created man (and women) in his image.

True and true,, We are adopted Children of God when we become Christians and yes all human beings are made in the image of God.. Note Image does not mean substance and adopted does not mean begotten.. So while i am an adopted son of God i understand that God is not like a genetic Father to me but a spiritual one while Jesus never had a human father like me.. Therefore Jesus is both the Son of God because His body was created by God within Mary and spiritually He had the sinless nature of God.. Of course me having a human father i inherited a sin nature..

I assume those references were from the New Testament. This might be a dumb question, but is there anything written about it in the old testament?

Yes.. There was an instance in the Old testament starting in Genesis 18 and 19 when The LORD came down and visited Abraham and His wife.. Abraham's wife prepared food for the LORD and the LORD ate the food. At this time The LORD also destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.. After speaking with Abraham The LORD in physical form went down to Sodom.. Now note what the OT scriptures say in the following::

(Genesis 19:23-25) "¶ The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar. {24} Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; {25} And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground."

So The LORD in physical form on earth rained fire and brimstone from The LORD in heaven.. One LORD two persons One in Heaven and the other On Earth..

Here's what I'm getting at, wouldn't that be one hell of a trick to play on Humanity,

What trick? I do not understand your point..

to get everybody to be violating the Ten Commandments, religiously and , under their own free will?

People are destined to violate the Ten Commandments because of their fallen human sinful natures.. The Ten Commandments act to let all people know that they are Sinners who cannot do the Ten commandments without failure.. Therefore letting them know that they need a Savior to Redeem them from judgement and eternal destruction.. In comes The LORD Jesus and He did Just that..

That one that God gave us that would be the way to do it because it's so close but technically a violation.

I don't know what point your making here?? Technically a violation? what violation?
@Jayciedubb
Since Jesus is the son of God, isn't it a violation of the 10 Commandments to pray to Jesus? Also to wear the crucifix?

John 14:9: Jesus saith unto him, "Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father? [10] Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me?"

It's okay to pray to Jesus. One of the most powerful prayers is the prayer of salvation to Jesus, our only Meditator between God and man, [1 Timothy 2:5.] "Lord Jesus, I come before you, just as I am, I am sorry for my sins, I repent of my sins, please forgive me." Even Stephen, as he was dying, said, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."

Jesus prayed consistently, in all kinds of ways, and always focused on glorifying God.The Lord's Prayer is not the only prayer we find Jesus praying in the Bible. Jesus did not restrict himself, or us, only to praying the exact words of the Lord's Prayer. Despite all of the inadequacy we see in our prayers—they are made powerful and effective, when they are received by the Father, through Jesus. He repeatedly taught His disciples to pray in His name (John 14:13–14; 15:16; 16:23–24). To pray in Jesus' name isto acknowledge that our access to God in prayer, comes only through Jesus. There is power in the name of Jesus.

Wearing the Cross

Many Christians wear crosses as an expression of their great love, respect, and service to Christ, along with a remembrance of what He did for us, but we are not to worship any image like the cross, or pictures of Christ or Mary. The Bible says not to worship nor bow down to idols or saints. That is against the 10 Commandments.
@Jayciedubb
Im talking about it possibly being a violation of the first Commandment by praying to the son of God as if he's God himself.

Jesus, His Father, and the Holy Spirit ARE called "God". That is, they make up the Godhead. They are inseparable, one in the Spirit. One does not make any decision without the others, in the Godhead.

John 14:9: Jesus saith unto him, "Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father.."

@Jayciedubb
If a Muslim worships Jesus as God that would make him a Christian. It's called converting. It happens all the time and could happen in any religion. It's because we have that free will that God gave us.

That will not happen. Muslims do not worship Jesus as Savior of the world. They do not worship Jesus as God and are not followers of Christ, so they cannot be labeled as Christian.
@sree251
I don't think their is a one true faith and everybody is walking in lockstep into God's arms. This is why some folks stay away from religion. They think it's nuts. I suspect you feel the same way too.

Jesus differs with you on that philosophy. Jesus said there's only ONE WAY. It doesn't get clearer than this:

John 14:6-7
Jesus saith unto him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: NO MAN cometh unto the Father, but by ME.
Jayciedubb · 56-60, M
@LadyGrace are you telling me that no muslim has ever converted to christianity? I understand at that point they would become christian and therefore it wouldn't be a Muslim worshiping Jesus it would be a Christian worshiping him. I get it. I think that's what I've been saying the whole time, isn't it?
@Jayciedubb
are you telling me that no muslim has ever converted to christianity?

No way. ANY who come to Christ can be saved. Salvation has nothing to do with the denominations of this world. Jesus died for ALL.

I understand at that point they would become christian and therefore it wouldn't be a Muslim worshiping Jesus it would be a Christian worshiping him.

Absolutely! They would become followers of Christ and welcomed into His family, having eternal life in heaven.

"A great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language” (Revelation 7:9)—will come to faith in Christ."
Jayciedubb · 56-60, M
@LadyGrace thanks for explaining it so clearly. I know you believe and it all makes total sense to you. Your faith is evident to me.

I'm a man who was raised without religion and one thing i noticed way back when i was a child was that there is so much conflict and controversy between all the religions of the world. ..and they all think they're right. Because of that, I've developed a cynical approach to religion
@Jayciedubb You are most welcome. I can certainly understand that. We know one thing. That God is no liar and because of that, we can trust and count on His Word to be truth. We don't have to count on what all the religions of the world say. God warned of many false teachers, to be careful of them, and instead, turn to the One who knows the truth, and that is Jesus. He'll never lead us astray. He is trustworthy. God's Word is truth. We know He is right, so when we have questions, it only makes sense to turn to God and His Word, who will never lie to us nor abandon us. He gives us wisdom. God said there's a way to tell if any are truthful or not. He said the way to do that, is that if what they say about God and His word do not match up with what is written in the Bible, then turn away from them and leave them. That is a foolproof way to know who is telling the truth, because what they say will match up with what God said in His Word, completely.

James 1:5-15
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

I do not believe in religion. No religion died on the cross for me, to save me from my sins....but Jesus did. That makes it a personal relationship with Him. Jesus scolded "religious" leaders in His day. He said they had a "form/appearance" of godliness, but their hearts were far from Him. They were hypocrites. They would stand on the streets and either prayed to God or preach about God and when they prayed they would twist their faces all up as if they were praying in earnest to make people think they were so godly, but they were not. God saw through them. They just wanted to be popular with the crowd and for people to say oh look how holy this person is. They were phonies. But God said in His Word, there's a way to know when people are phony, as well. John 3:16 said that Jesus died for everyone in the world, so he could save everyone in the world, not just a certain denomination. So when it comes to religion, it means nothing when it comes to Salvation, because salvation is for everyone.

Eternal salvation is above religion. Religion is just manmade philosophy. It is "man" wanting to box God in, to his own idea of what he thinks is the way to heaven, but not following God's Word, nor God's own Plan of Salvation. God did not give man permission to change His great plan. That's because it works.

Because of that, I've developed a cynical approach to religion

Understandable.. Because the truth is only One is right 100%...
Jayciedubb · 56-60, M
@Adstar i cant tell if you're joking or not, so with all due respect, i wonder if that's still a high number? I'm not trying to be hyperbolic. I really wonder and I walk the walk. I went to war with dogtags that say "no preference" where my religion is supposed to be written. It drove our Chaplin nuts and we used to spend lots of time arguing about it. My point was always that i believe in god but not religion. His point was always that so does satan believe in God. I always felt the need to remind him that I'm not satan, although my birthday is 6.6.66 😳😯 lol it's true...😇
@Jayciedubb Good for you! 👍 Not many understand that believing in Christ as Savior is a relationship, not a certain religion. 👍🙏👍

@Adstar i cant tell if you're joking or not
I don't joke about God..

so with all due respect, i wonder if that's still a high number? I'm not trying to be hyperbolic.

Well that's up to you to decide.. You can go seeking and decide for yourself if God is real and what Gods will is by comparing different scriptures..

I went to war with dogtags that say "no preference" where my religion is supposed to be written. It drove our Chaplin nuts and we used to spend lots of time arguing about it.

So you where an agnostic then?

If people want an argument then it becomes an argument.. Some people prefer a debate.. But most prefer a discussion..

My point was always that i believe in god but not religion.

Cool,, That means your ahead of many.. So your not agnostic,, You simply believe in a God but don't know for sure who He is and what His will is?

His point was always that so does satan believe in God.

Well that's in the Bible so i am not surprised he would say that.. Yeah i believe satan knows God exists and that God is great.. Unfortunately for satan God was a lot greater then satan thought..

I always felt the need to remind him that I'm not satan,

That's true.. You're not satan..

although my birthday is 6.6.66 😳😯 lol it's true...😇

🤣 lucky you got the extra 6 mate.. The beasty boy will only have 3 sixes..

In any case i think you have had more then one bad experience with religous humans. In ""organized religion"" But in the end we are going to be dealing with God on a one on one basis.. People are not going to front up to Him in denominational crowds.. So it's ones personal response to Him that matters.. Not ones organized religion affiliations..
Jayciedubb · 56-60, M
@Adstar that's a good point about how we will be trickling in on somewhat individual judgement days (except for certain cult members like those in Heaven's Gate, Jonestown, Branch Davidians).

I think I'm still a bit Agnostic, at least that's where I'm coming from. I've just been noticing things that make me believe there's an organized higher power that created all of this and keeps it going.

I haven't had any bad experiences with any religions. The closest thing would be some arguments I've had with various Atheists. The bad part was the waste of time it was that i spent arguing with people who have nothing to prove and refuse to even ponder a possibility
of something way better than nothing.

I know if i was absolutely positive or even if i just had a hunch that all there is is this finite lifetime each of us has, I wouldn't waste any of my time insulting the overwhelming mass of people who believe otherwise. Right? If there's nothing and we all find out on an individual basis, does it really matter what anyone else believes?

Although organized religion isn't for me, i believe it's done more good than bad for our civilized soceity. I certainly wouldn't expect to be able to argue anyone out of their beliefs and have nothing to replace them with, especially when thats what keeps many people happy. Lol it's really a ridiculous notion when run a little logic through it.. it's like they don't want there to be anything after life and they want to spend the omly amount of time they have in a world full of miserable people.

I don't know if i really believe in sinning. It seems to me that all sins are justifiable by their sinners, even murder. If there's an afterlife, why would it be a sin to send people there?
@Jayciedubb
The point of my question was to shed light on a valid possibility, ( validity pertaining to the faithful) that worshiping Jesus like a god may be an acceptable sin but a sin never the less.

How can one say that they love God, but call worshiping him and praying to Jesus, a sin?? While Jesus is the Son of God as written in the Bible's New Testament, He is also the 2nd person of the Godhead [trinity]. GOD is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - the Godhead and scripture confirms it. You can't have one without the other. They are in perfect unity and harmony. The wise men and angels even worshipped Jesus. David and Paul, all the disciples worshipped Jesus. He too is the “LORD” of the Old Testament (e.g. Is 40:3 c.f. Mark 1:3; Joel 2:32 c.f. Rom 10:13; John 8:58); He too is Creator, Sustainer, Lifesaver, etc.. Jesus is God incarnate, "true God and true man" (or both fully divine and fully human).

Hebrews 1:3 tells us that Jesus is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and He upholds the universe by the word of His power. This is not the description of any angel, any man, or even a superhuman man. This is a description of God. Because Jesus is God. We worship Jesus for who He is and what He did for us on the cross, in saving us from the condemnation that sin placed on us. We worship Him for his divinity and supremacy.

Hebrews 1:6 - "And again, when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him."

It is right for us to worship the Lord Jesus Christ. When He was born into the world as a human, the angels gave homage by worshipping Him. The wise men from the east who came to witness His birth, worshipped Him, and God did not rebuke them for doing so. These witnesses all worshipped Him, even as a newborn, before He did anything that demonstrated His divinity. He was always God, even within His mother's womb (see Luke 1:39-45, where it mentions Mary as "mother of my Lord"). He was not a mere angelic messenger. As the Living God, His every act was divine, and even as a human, He showed ample evidence of His authority. As God, He healed the sick, diseased, and handicapped. He could not have done that if he was not God.
@Jayciedubb
I don't know if i really believe in sinning. It seems to me that all sins are justifiable by their sinners, even murder. If there's an afterlife, why would it be a sin to send people there?

If you do not believe you are a sinner, just as everyone in the world is, then there's no way that you can claim to be saved. It is the Bible that says so. That was the whole purpose of Jesus coming to this earth, as our only Mediator between God and man. We cannot drag our sins into heaven. God's Word says that sin Keeps Us separated from Him and Heaven until we repent and ask Jesus to forgive us of our sins. Heaven is a holy place where God dwells and there is no sin in heaven, or it could not even be called "heaven". This is why we need to ask Jesus to forgive us of our sins and invite him into our heart and life as our personal Savior. He forgives our sins and we are given eternal life in heaven as a gift from God.

1 John 1:8
If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and His Word is not in us. "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us."
