If religion is supposedly so liberating then why so many strict rules?

I think what people find liberating is that they have clear direction. It provides them with meaning and purpose. If they were lacking that, like many of us are, they find it through the worship of a god. As such, the rules exist as a framework for consideration of the meaning/purpose they find through it.

@originnone if you need a fictional character to give you directions then you need serious help

@Skinnygingesarah Your statement is true, but like it or not, there is evidence of the existence of god. Religion has grown to overshadow that question, and while there's certainly no proof (and never will be in our world), there is certainly evidence should you choose to believe it.

@originnone The one thing Christianity does not give you is a sense of direction. Exactly the opposite.

@originnone where is the evidence of God's existence?
originnone · 61-69, M
@Skinnygingesarah I could provide you with tons of it. I could also provide you with just as much if not more that there is no god....but that would take far longer than it would take to complete this post....I'm just on the sight for fun. If you actually are interested, there's a wealth of documentation that would surprise anyone....it certainly did me....
Skinnygingesarah · 36-40, F
@originnone show me two pieces of evidence
originnone · 61-69, M
@Skinnygingesarah Well, generally speaking (which won't give you what you're asking really), is there's undeniable consistency between historical texts and certain texts from major religions that can't be reasonably refuted.....Second....the prophetic "writings" from thousands of years ago which show consistency through time that intwine the assertion that there is a god. So....you'll easily be able to say that you're not convinced....I'm not either. But if you actually want specifics, I'd be happy to give you some references. You'd have to look at them in context. Non of it would fit in a paragraph or two....
Skinnygingesarah · 36-40, F
@originnone that's just words. I want physical proof and solid evidence that God is a sentient being I can see
originnone · 61-69, M
@Skinnygingesarah I told you that there is no proof. But there is evidence. Whether you consider it to be "solid" or not is your judgement.
Entwistle · 56-60, M
@originnone There is no evidence of any existence of any god.
Skinnygingesarah · 36-40, F
@originnone so why should I take your word that God exists?
originnone · 61-69, M
@Skinnygingesarah You absolutely shouldn't. I don't believe it myself. But I've read a great deal, and there is a lot of evidence....not enough for me. Like you, it seems to me that if god wanted me to know she/he existed, it would be easy enough to provide proof....and why would she/he want to hide it. All I'm saying is that there's a lot more evidence out there than most people realize....and yeah...it's all words.
Skinnygingesarah · 36-40, F
@originnone if "god" can't be shown then I consider it a projection
originnone · 61-69, M
@Skinnygingesarah Very valid and astute thought. Many brilliant scholars believe the same thing....
Skinnygingesarah · 36-40, F
@originnone they'll know better
originnone · 61-69, M
@Skinnygingesarah Well, that's the thing. I've often wondered if there was a way to predict the probability that there actually is one....or many or whatever....But the really is that it's pointless.....This is an is/isn't....and we will likely never actually know....Life after death is the same way.....but none of us have actually seen kind nor lived post death, so in the end, I just find it all hard to believe. Like you, I like things I can see, touch, feel, hear....
@originnone What evidence is there of God’s existence?
