I don't believe in The Devil

I think this is probably based on the fact that people didn't know what caused bad things. But to really believe the devil made me do it. Or God is angry at us a very ignorant way of thinking. As we learn what causes natural disasters we realize there is a physical reason for these things. And as people take responsibility for their actions they don't have to claim they are being tempted by the devil. It might be a convenient way to explain bad things but it sounds more like a fairy tale to me

As CS Lewis says one of the things that delights the devil is when people don’t believe in him. He is equally delighted in a materialist and a magician. See ‘The Screwtape Letters’

@Mathers don't believe what others say. Believe what you feel
Mathers · 61-69
I believe truth and facts not feelings@Axeroberts

@Mathers one man's facts are another's lies. Who knows the real truth.
LordShadowfire · 100+, M
Certainly not @Mathers! 😆

So you appeal to the authority of an internet mere to try to undermine the authority of one of Britain’s greatest scholars. Do you realise how foolish that makes you look to anyone of intelligence! @LordShadowfire
LordShadowfire · 100+, M
@Mathers Wow. Do you get brain cramps from your mental gymnastics?
Mathers · 61-69
Nope. I just think with my brain not with my bum @LordShadowfire

What you are saying is you can’t think for yourself@LordShadowfire

Too bad buddy. Put it in the right context! 😀@LordShadowfire

@Mathers Oh, nice. Editing your insult after I respond to make me look bad.

What I am saying is you worship C.S. Lewis as if he were infallible.
Mathers · 61-69
You don’t know what a logical fallacy is. Sorry but you are just showing your ignorance now to anyone with sense. Go and clear your brain out and do some serious reading. Read the Srewtape Letters@LordShadowfire

You’re running out of ideas man. Go away and read a book. @LordShadowfire
LordShadowfire · 100+, M
@Mathers You only have so many logical fallacies in your little bag of bullshit.

Go back to praying at your little altar to CS Lewis.

@Mathers oh boy here we go again? Constant ad hominems and no good arguments.
@Mathers C.S. Lewis was a great writer but a lousy philosopher. Mere Christianity is an embarrassment. I think most of the people who like it hold affectionate feelings because they loved The Chronicles of Narnia when they were kids. And Lewis' Trilemma is ludicrous.

J.R.R. Tolkien was a close friend of Lewis as they were both members of a club, the Inklings, when they were at Oxford. When Lewis converted to Christianity, Tolkien was disappointed that he chose the Church of England over Catholicism, as Tolkien was Catholic.
Mathers · 61-69
Ever thought it might be you who knows nothing about philosophy? The fact was that Mere Christianity had its Genesis in a series of radio broadcasts Lewis gave to the people of Britain and around the world which were widely acclaimed. They are of course an embarrassment to pseudo-intellectuals like yourself who kid yourselves you are above reason. Interestingly great scientists with great minds like Francis Collins and John Lennox say differently. But no doubt they don’t compare with your mighty intellect!

@LeopoldBloom I don't think you're going to get anywhere with @Mathers. He prays every night to CS Lewis.
Mathers · 61-69
You do make yourself sound very foolish indeed @LordShadowfire
LordShadowfire · 100+, M
@Mathers Well, you've made it clear you think he's perfect. I can only assume that means you worship him.
Mathers · 61-69
You are so ridiculous. Where did I say CS Lewis was perfect? You are a completely ridiculous as any form of thought. You don’t deserve any form of serious discussion@LordShadowfire
@Mathers I'm aware that Lewis was popular. That doesn't make him right. By that standard, you should be reading the works of Kanye West, because he's very popular too.

Lewis' Trilemma is deficient because it ignores other options that are just as logical. Since Jesus never wrote anything himself, we can't just say he was either crazy, or lying, or telling the truth. We also have to include the possibilities that the people who wrote about him were crazy, or lying, or telling the truth. Assuming that everything written about Jesus is automatically and unquestionably accurate is unwarranted, and your acceptance of that shows your inability to think critically.
