Probably the Lord meant that as a punishment. Well for their sin.

@Pancake Yes it was punishment of King David because he had Uriah murdered.. He had sexual relations with Uriah's wife Bathsheba .. Bathsheba got pregnant and David tried to hide the affair.. In the end he organized the death of Uriah to cover His sin.. But the LORD sees all.. Nothing can be hid from Him..
