There is no logic, they'll believe whatever crap their brain as made up for them. And you can't end it until you leave or they go to sleep. It is futile

Some people are like the people who were with Moses when they had Aaron make them the golden calf to worship because Moses was fooling around on the mountain. They couldn't go 15 minutes without worshiping something, regardless of what it was. For some people, the Jesus character is their golden calf.
