why changing a religion is taboo

Changing a faith must be a person's own choice... My muslim relatives and friends do not treat me the way they used to .. because now I'm a hindu an idolater believer of many gods because i go to temples. according to them I've downgraded...i hate these bastards

I was taught that although Hindus worship many gods, they believe that all the gods are just the many facets of one god. They find it impossible to worship a infinite being like god as one entity.
