Because it represents a loss of control.

Religion seeks to control the members of the belief. If anyone switches they have lost that little bit of that control.

This is with all religions.
@DeWayfarer Nothing could be further from the truth. Not all religions seek to control. There are many religions that do not.

@LadyGrace look at Hinduism (India), or Taoism (China). Then look at the laws were those religions are. I don't need to go into any of the Abrahamic beliefs.

Also I'm not referring to beliefs as such. I'm referring to organize RELIGION. If there's a building involved it's organized.

Now give some examples of where a "religion" with some type of structure that doesn't "attempt" to change the laws or attempts to keep certain laws in effect.

Religion controls, beliefs do not.
