that the people who follow a religion which promotes love and compassion can't extend their love and understanding to anyone who doesn't believe as they do?
Even when the conversation is rational and calm, not believing in their way of life is seen as a threat and met with anger.

Surely, this must be the groundwork of "religious war."
I don't practice any religion, and I'm perfectly willing to love, accept and let people live with whatever beliefs they wish to practice. Yet the the religious, who are so full of love for their fellow man, can't accept anyone who doesn't believe what they do.
What's wrong with this picture?

Well if you start with the premise religions are man made and designed to control behavior and create social cohesion then things make a little more sense
