why do people treat the bible as a text book.

When did it happen that the bible turned into a text book? It's a spiritual book based on metaphors. Who would read Cinderella and treat it like nonfiction? "What's the moral of the story" is what we should be looking at

@Millerdog, all of the biblical stories, except for a couple in the Apocrypha, illustrate one or more of the real Ten Commandments (Exodus 34:11-26) in action. The miracles are based on Exodus 34:10.

The stories are just mnemonic devices to get the listener, or the reader, to make the association with the correct Ten Commandment and to show the consequences of obeying or disobeying the commandment. That is why some of the stories don't make logical sense because the reader does not know that. It is easy to understand the stories if you tie them to the right real Ten Commandment.
