A day of respite [Peace and Quiet]

The train whistle is blowing from the other side of town. Close enough to hear. Far enough to soothe. A thoughtful wail. It’s been raining all day. The perfect rain that comes every spring with the heavy tattered blanket of gray and the musical plops and patters. Hypnotic concentric circles making art in puddle reflections. Everything’s dormant still, but the shades of brown are glowing brighter in the soft light, like a child saying “5 more minutes Mom” though the waking has already begun. The candle’s lit, the lamp on low. The headache a dull echo of yesterday’s stress. There is no gloom but quiet comfort. Shhhh, the world says. I find myself grateful and more than inclined to listen. 💧

its an incredibly soothing sound to me, those long bending whistles at night, I grew up with one in my 4 AM bedroom memory and live live near one now!
