Changing name when getting married (or otherwise going into long term committed relationship)
Never been married myself so never had anything to do with this. Closest was working out with my ex how to arrange the last name our of daughter when she was born mid-2017 and we chose a hyphenated version of both our surnames - ie. Dad Blogs and Mum Doe have child when they're not married (and never will or would be!) and chose surname for child of Doe-Blogs.
When you get married, or otherwise go into a long term committed relationship, are you *required* by any sort or law or rule for the woman to change her last name to be that of her new beau, or is that just more out of religious-influenced convention based around the dated view of a woman being the man's 'property'?
