I Need Some Relationship Advice

I have a friend who's been having trouble with her boyfriend recently and a few days ago she told me she was thinking of leaving her boyfriend for me. I really like her and I do have a slight crush on her but I told her that I didn't want a relationship with her because I thought it was bad timing. I'd be happy to date her but I just don't want to be a rebound girlfriend. Did I do the right thing?
