Marriage in most western societies confers significant legal privileges regarding property, inheritance, immigration, tax, and general finance. Extending these privileges to a potentially infinite number of spouses would make a whole raft of law impossible to enforce and be open to general fraud and abuse. That is why government is right to intervene.

And not only when it comes to polygamy... Around the world there's a push to make same sex marriage illegal again. The USA is heading towards banning mixed religion and mixed race marriages too. The only marriage conservatives seem to want to ease restrictions on is child marriage. You know, to protect the kids. 🙄

@jshm2 True, the former creates no independence, it builds nothing. It actually destroys, creates dependency, and spreads negativity - yet completely legal and in some countries subsidized by the state.
However, a man with the resources and intelligence to support several wives all of whom consent and their children, they could quickly build up the power to create good in the world. You'd have numerous people with the same values, goals, expectations etc all working toward the same thing, and if they all have multiple wives and children passing on the same goals and values, something of huge value could be created.
People talk of "challenging the system", about "waking up", and "challenging the elites". Well, guess what, you aren't going to be challenging anything if your priority is having the ability to sleep around, shag other men and drink. You WILL challenge the "system" if you have a huge coherent unit that can replicate itself in ever growing numbers.
