The government when it comes to polygamy:

"Noooooooooo, I will control what consenting adults can do!"

What other consenting adults do is none of anyone else's business.

And not only when it comes to polygamy... Around the world there's a push to make same sex marriage illegal again. The USA is heading towards banning mixed religion and mixed race marriages too. The only marriage conservatives seem to want to ease restrictions on is child marriage. You know, to protect the kids. 🙄
