Synchronicity?

My partner and I recently had to renew our driver’s licences. If you’ve ever done it, you’ll know it’s a long, tedious process involving endless queues, crowds of people, eye tests, photographs, paperwork, and appointments that have to be booked weeks in advance. Then, after all that, you still have to wait another six weeks for the licence itself.

Anyway, we’d booked our appointments two days apart, and I went first.

When it was his turn, he stood in the queue for nearly two hours. At some point, he noticed a piece of paper lying on the floor and picked it up. Inside was my spare licence photo.

What are the chances?

Out of all the people, on all the days, in all the queues, he just happened to find my photograph lying there waiting for him.

Not sure where youre located, but we can renew ours online and it takes minutes. At a certain age, they may require an onsite visit at the DMV to retest. Prior to the ability to renew online, there were long lines waiting, but you got your new license right then and there.

Thats crazy, he found your photo.

Until about 10 years ago most of the larger NSW roads department places (back then called DMR later RMS 'motor registries' left over from the days when they used to do vehicle safety inspections before that task was privatised) had machines to produce and issue your new license card on the spot once all the admin processes were done. Within 10 minutes the fresh warm license card was ready.

Now, all those machines have been taken away, 'motor registries' abolished and morphed into 'whole of government' service outlets (Service NSW here), and you have to wait up to two weeks for the new license card to be sent by post from some head office location once you meet all the requirements and pay the money.

There is the option of an e-license but you have to download, install, and use the Service NSW app, and because it's on your phone at a police stop you are not allowed to touch your phone until the police officer says you can or you get charged with improper use of a mobile device while in control of a motor vehicle.

I don't use the app and carry the physical license card.
@zonavar68 it’s even worse here

@MellyMel22 naw. Don’t feel bad. I’m sure people understand. It’s no biggie.
