I consider myself a Christian conservative but I dislike when some other Christian conservatives generalize Muslims as jihadists.
I've heard Christian conservatives claim Islam is the solemn enemy of the Jewish people. In the first place, let's not forget about the Christian Crusaders and various Christian groups who slaughtered millions in the name of God.
Jews suffered greatly under Christian rule beginning with Constantine the Great who forced Jews to work on the Sabbath and implemented laws requiring Jews to pay special taxes. Jews in Iberia were subjected to the harshest treatment by the Visigoths - who some historians believe inspired Hitler. During the Middle Ages, the Byzantine Empire and Roman Catholic Church wanted to preserve the Jewish identity through means of segregation. Jews were not allowed to marry or even eat with Christians.
For much of history, Muslims protected Jews from Christian persecution by providing them with refuge. During the Islamic Golden Ages and Arab Renaissance period, Judaism in Levant flourished under Islamic rule. Jews in diaspora were encouraged to return to Palestine under Ottoman Empire rule and some Sultans even aided the Rothschild foundation in financing voyages of the First Aliyah. During WW2, Muslims protected millions of Jews from the Nazis in Southeastern Europe and in North Africa.
Relations between Jews and Muslims in the region greatly deteriorated in 1947, when the UN adopted a Partition Plan for the creation of independent Arab and Jewish states. The creation of the state of Israel was a violent process. In 1948, over 700,000 Palestinians were forced to flee the state of Israel. Every year on May 15, Palestinians around the world mark the Nakba, or Palestinian Cataclysm.
Christians, Jews and Muslims have all played a role in perpetuating religious wars.
