A guy I know asked me if I had a bf.

I told him I'm engaged to be married in a while.
That ain't true but I was not interested in him, and wanted him to stop thinking I was a possibility.

That's one way to make a point for him to stop pursuing any future hopes of getting together with you. Personally, it's better to just be honest with him and tell them you're not interested. It'll still hurt, but he'll be able to move on knowing for a fact that it wouldn't work out between you and him. Don't string him along, and let him decide from that point if he wants to keep being friends but again if you don't want anything to do with him you should make it clear. If you have boundaries make it clear. Not all guys are the same, but personally this is how I would rather things go down.

@gomenosai Thanks for the sincere reply. But in my experience, when a guy asks a girl whether she has a bf and if she says no; they think it's worth giving it a shot even if she clearly states she ain't interested.
A single girl is seen as a person worth trying for.
But most usually back off if the girl is committed.
