@Northwest interesting?
Including divorce?
Including divorce?
Mindful · 56-60, F
@SilentObZerver once a couple decides to divorce or break up, and the "love" is gone... or theres been a betrayal...there's a lot of gender trashing that goes on...

@Mindful hmm

Every marriage is a different case. You can't pass a general statement. And even they are different in different cultures. Women have different types of responsibilities to perform than men in a marriage. It's not fair and easy to undermine one sort of work/duties.
The important thing in a marriage is love. Marriage is not a business contract, where you should measure profitability. Some things cannot be measured/compared.

@ABCDEF7 so is love enough for marriage?
ABCDEF7 · M
@SilentObZerver Not enough, so important that you can't ignore it.

From what I've seen men get most of the benefits from marriage.

@SilentObZerver Women do all the work. They do all the housework, raise kids, cook, and take care of the husband's life for him. Men just work and come home. Generally speaking anyway, not true in all cases

Let's examine the reality:
The "50/50" relationship, or equal partnership, always and ONLY includes help with cooking, cleaning, laundry and grocery shopping. The 50/50 relationship, or equal partnership, NEVER includes help with vehicle repair & maintenance, heavy lifting, yard work, home repairs, appliance & maintenance, or plumbing & heating repairs. "That's a man's job!"
Seems to me that women benefit at least 50% more than men.

@Horace but most women dont want a 50/50 relationship

Um research actually shows that marriage is a risk factor for women and a protective factor for men. Marriage provides men with the emotional and social support they need so they're less likely to engage in risk taking behaviors. Whereas child birth and household chores can be tough for women. They may be looking at the financial aspect which does benefit women more.

The only thing I got out of being married was my amazing son and I definitely seem to recognize that much more than his dad.
EldritchFox · 41-45, F
@SilentObZerver I think it'll be different for everyone
SilentObZerver · M
@EldritchFox ok
Mindful · 56-60, F
@EldritchFox I agree that it varies from one person to the next.
Because they want to eat their cake and have it too.
SilentObZerver · M
@EarthlingWise so men benefit more?
@SilentObZerver Not necessarily, that will depend on people, whether they respect their partner and themselves too.
Mindful · 56-60, F
@EarthlingWise well said.

hmmm
Roundandroundwego · 61-69
Because that's its purpose, to protect kids and gals from the powerful and violent men.
Roundandroundwego · 61-69
@SilentObZerver yes. Laws protect the weak from the strong, pretty much always.
SilentObZerver · M
@Roundandroundwego interesting......so the strong are compelled to marry?
Roundandroundwego · 61-69
@SilentObZerver no, that's not part of the deal. Marriage attracts the men into the contract.
Fertilization · 36-40, F
People who say this are usually focusing on the benefits they believe women receive and overlooking the many ways men benefit. In a healthy marriage, both partners should gain from companionship, support, and shared responsibilities.
SilentObZerver · M
@Fertilization but some men express that women gain more from marriage.....emotionally, financially, or socially ...so marriage benefits women more than men....cos men tend to carry more obligations.
And even things that traditionally were to be in men's favor, women still feel men must help them
Cooking,,cleaning , washing , and sex

@SilentObZerver Women only benefit more financially and sometimes not even that..
Fertilization · 36-40, F
@SilentObZerver Marriage is not a competition over who benefits more. The obligations and advantages are different for each partner and vary from couple to couple. A healthy marriage works best when both people contribute fairly, appreciate each other’s efforts, and support one another rather than keeping score of who gains more.

Maybe because they're misogynists and base their ideology on Victorian morals and ethics??
