There are few things which are biological in nature, I think intimacy is one of them. As much as we would like our life partner to be emotionally intelligent, we would crave him or her to be compatible in terms of intimacy as well.

@darkknightt having said that, you need to be aware that it's never too late to start afresh. If you feel suffocated, you need to leave that relationship ASAP. There is always someone who would appreciate and value the real you.
