I think it did back when most lives were much shorter and the average marriage lasted 15 years until one of the partners died.
I think it still makes sense if you want to make a commitment to raising kids till they have achieved a trade or career. But too few young people realize just how much it takes to do the job successfully.
We should consider training and regular practice in listening and communication skills as a prerequisite before starting a family.
