You should definitely keep your last name, if you want to. For many people, that's such a historic part of their identity.

I don't think so.

My Daughter-in-law still has her maiden last name 10 years and two kids after marrying my son.

Not at all. It's just unusual in some places and times.
Piper · 61-69, F
Some people, usually men, seem to think so. I do not.

@RogueLoner Ha! Nah, not at all. In my own experience...most people, including men, don't think it's weird or dumb. Most people didn't even back in the early 80's, when I got married and kept my own last name in there, along with his. Those who had any kind of problem with it, though, were usually men.

My wife hyphenated her last name so she could keep hers.
It depends on the culture. In traditional patriarchal American culture, a woman keeping her married name is a problem.

Not at all.

When I was married the first time I was eager to change my last name to his, Second marriage not so much. I was in my mid 30's and had established myself in a career.

It wasn't done here back when I married and I have always felt a little twinge at no longer having my maiden name. Especially since my sister-in-law does. It's just odd.

Not really, some Countries allow either Married or Maiden name or a hyphenated combination of both names. Depends a lot on the couple and how they feel about it...

No sometimes depending on her job it might just be a professional decision but I don't see anything weird with it
Crazychick · 36-40, F
It's weirder to say "last name". Nobody I know says that, we all say "surname".
R5000 · 41-45, M
Rather keep than do the name joining trick.

Yes I know it's normal in Spanish cultures
Bklynbadboy12 · 31-35, M
Not so much any longer. At least in western culture, people are no longer considered to be property, which is the reason the woman would take on her husband's name.
Not weird at all. My wife kept - and still keeps - her last name.
Keepitsimple · 56-60, F
It’s cheaper not to and saves hassle in the event of a divorce. Some last names are awful.
