If you have children, it is traditional and considerate for the children to take the males name.
In Israel it affected inheritance of the land.

@Pfuzylogic Considerate?

Hey!! weren’t we friends at one time?
CoffeeFirst · 56-60, F
@Pfuzylogic Um, yes. I've seen you on the boards many times and not forgotten your name since we were writing.

@CoffeeFirst
That happens, I understand.
I remember when you
first messaged me.
I had to get use to new terms.
CoffeeFirst · 56-60, F
@Pfuzylogic I'm full of terminology, haha.

@CoffeeFirst
I think it was DD and DH and maybe DW?
CoffeeFirst · 56-60, F
@Pfuzylogic Yup, the whole family is a bunch of "D"s.

I saw your blog.
Your husband bends over backwards to keep you happy.

@Pfuzylogic And I, him.

@CoffeeFirst
Did you have a question for me hun?
CoffeeFirst · 56-60, F
@Pfuzylogic My question was why is it "considerate for the children" to take the male's last name? And I don't live in Israel anyway.

@CoffeeFirst
I think the children were considered if you can excuse the term “bastards” back in the day if they weren’t given the Father’s last name. Everyone knew who the Mother was but the last name was their legal link to their Father. With DNA and all that it is easier to link to the Father.

@Pfuzylogic This is 2019 so what's your point? I appreciate the history lesson but... Tradition changes.

@CoffeeFirst
I was sharing with you because you seemed to be honestly confused. I can see now you aren’t.
It is fun to chat with a former friend.

@Pfuzylogic I understand the reasoning behind the tradition. Not a problem. There are other ways to trace families today. DH does his family genealogy and the names were screwed up 100 years ago, too. I didn't mean to sound curt.

I understand it can be confusing on the surface to figure out who belongs to who. I've had the same issue in my own family. But why should I be denied my identity? There are many reasons I kept my name, and the kids have both our names.

Fun to chat with you, too!

I see you see you summarized everything so that you don’t need my input. Take care.
