Do women actually care about height?

A lot of dudes seem fixated on height if they are short and think it's a deal breaker or it makes it impossible to get women. One friend in particular railed against females putting in "minimum height" in dating websites. I tried to point out that he still has more success despite him being 4"7' and me being 5"8'. What is so attractive about it that justifies the obsession with it? The grass is always greener. If you're tall you just find something else to be insecure about. That's human nature

i am 5 foot 9 and i remember i was on a date with a woman who was 5 foot 6 . she asked about my last relationship (which is normal first date question) and of coursed I asked her the same quesiton after finishing my answer. What she said at the time floored me (at the time not today)

she said her boyfriend before me was 5 foot 5 and they laced intimacy which was more her fault than his. It was because she couldn't get turned on by him The next natural question is why is that and she said felt that (a) he couldn't protect her because he was small (and physically weak) and (b) sometimes becauseof his small stature she felt like she daing someone who had not grown up yet. Those two things kept her from feelig connected to him on an initmate level.

I loved the conversation (thought I felt sorry for the guy ) and took that question in the OP and asked it over and over while in my late 20's early 30's and interestingly most women on first dates were willing to answer the question. Almost always they were not willin go date a shorter fella and the reason they gave the most were

1) did not feel with a short guy (felt he could not protect her)
2) felt like he was pre-adult in looks
3) like to crane their head up when embracing before a soft kiss
4) like to feel their head craddled in a man's chest when hugging
5) like (turned on by) big hands (which short guys often did not have)
6 ) wanted to feel petite when with their man and a short guy made that challening
7) wanted to wear high heels on dates (to feel sexy) without towering over their man
8) not as often but liked legs as much as many men like legs and long legs were better than short
9) not sexually attracted to them but could not articutate why to me.

there are probably others that i can't remember any more--was long time ago. but the two biggest take aways is how often it turned out that women i met were turned off by short guys and how open if I just asked them, they were about height and why it mattered.

however in the data-driven world we now live in my little organic poll may not amount to jack and squat. i am sure someone somewhere crunched a much bigger dataset on the quettion and has a data-driven answer.

My height is 1.70m [about 5'7"]

When I was married I was 5cm taller than my husband; subsequently I had a lover who was also 5cm shorter.
Both were happy / keen for me to wear my favourite 10cm [4'] heels !

What really matters is that what they have between their ears is in tune with what is between mine !

Men have moments of insecurity. Dating is stressful. The guys venting that less people seem to find him attractive because he's small.

I have known women who will not date below their height. So I wouldn't say he's wrong, just venting a bit which is either... validate his feelings or dont.

It's just the way things are

I am almost 6 feet and one of my friends has a girlfriend that’s 5-11 and she frequently wears heels and I feel weird looking up at her and can’t picture dating a woman that tall wearing heels or someone even taller. No offense to tall women.
Kenworth4954 · 56-60, M
I'm kinda right on the line at 5'9" I honestly don't think I would've cared either way. I've been in relationships with women from 5'2" to 5"11" I loved'm all just the same and height never mattered to me or them that I know of. You're absolutely right in the sense that if you're insecure with yourself you're a disaster no matter what.
As a guy who is 5'5" being short does work against you.

But you can complain about people who care about the superficial and won't change their mind or find someone who is looking for someone like you.

I've always found it helpful when women put things like that on dating profiles. It's a tiny minority that does it and it helps me ignore some that prioritise superficiality over anything else.

I'm kind of preoccupied by it sometimes. I'm on the short end of normal for a man but tall end of normal for a woman at about 171 cm. My sister is 180 cm. It's not fair. I wanted the tall gene.
My only requirement on height is that he be taller than me... be it a few inches, like 5ft 4, 5ft 10 (average male height here) 6ft, 7ft, I'm not that picky as long as I don't feel like a giant beside him - especially not if I wear a pair of heels as I've been wanting to venture into as I'm getting older.
@HumanEarth Ma'am... I'm 4ft 9... someone shorter than me is slim pickings - most old folks are bigger than me, even after they've been shrinking for who knows how long old folks shrink for.

But I'm still bigger than the bard, though...

Wait till you see my daughters 4 of them are 6 feet tall or taller.
@HumanEarth Giantesses!!!

Height does affect men more than women. I recently saw a photo of a friend in a family gathering. He was standing on his tip toes ro look taller. I'm not bothered by height.
Almost every woman I've been with has remarked about my size in a positive way. I'm 6' and ruggedly built I guess.
Adogslife · 61-69, M
Life is a bit easier if you’re taller as a man. He’s not going to change that nor should a woman adjust her preferences to accommodate his insecurities.
mindstruggle · 31-35, F
Most of the woman I know prefer someone taller than them. I'm not really bothered by it tho.
WandererTony · 56-60, M
I am 6' and i really do not think it helped that much.
I'm tall for a woman and I do care if guys are way shorter, it's awkward. Maybe i'm superficial
BeJeweled · 61-69, F
Im petite and everyone is taller than me so it doesn't matter.
SmallMack · 31-35, M
As a guy who is 5’5 i can say with certainty women care about height! Lol
Cowboybob · M
As a below average height man, I have found that many women filter on height in dating websites. Oh well, their loss
Like some guys prefer skinny women, some guys like big women and some don’t care either way. Everyone has preferences. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
Mandyheart98 · 26-30, F
I've never cared about height.

It's like anything else, they'll make exceptions if they like you enough
I females demand minimum height in dating websites , shouldn´t males demand maximum weight ?

HumanEarth · F

pdockal · 56-60, M
You can't control who/ what turns you on
I am 6' tall. Nobody gives a sht.
Moneyonmymind · 31-35, M
Luckily I am almost 6ft so I never heard any complaints from the ladies
No, women have NO interest in height for

• themselves, as shown by the fact that ALL women's footwear is flat...

Katie01 · F
Any man shorter than 6' is practically a woman
AnotherWeirdo · 41-45, M
It seems like there are dudes out there who got rejected for their height once or twice and decided that was representative of women in general so now they whine about it to everyone within earshot.
Doomflower · 41-45, M
@NerdyPotato the REAL spider man. He even has 8 limbs.
@NerdyPotato I almost forgot to tag @FeetAreFantastic. The female version of this with a little less clothing would be his dream woman, right?
OriginalDumbMan · 36-40
Rarely will you see a woman dating a man of less height than hers.
...or for

• men, because they don't care that most body parts scale with size...

Yes they do. Well most do.
