How to gently say no to a friend who asks you out on a date?

so i went shopping with a friend today, totally should have known something was up since no one really asks me for fashion advice, especially my guy friends.. anyway we are hanging out and its going great till the moment he tells me he likes me a lot more then a friend and asks if I would ever consider going out with him...

he is one of my closest friends and now I feel like I am going to lose him if I say no.. I have no interest in dating anyone though.

any advice?

I have a similar story like this. I was in high school and this guy asked me out. I didn't know what to say to him at first and I didn't really feel the same as he felt about me. A few of his friends ended up asking me out for him instead of him because he was probably a little too afraid to come to me. Then, I was pretty confident and rejected him. Even though it may have hurt him, at least I was honest about it and he understood how I felt. I'm sure your friend will understand how you feel. ☺

I haven't seen him since high school, which was 6 years ago, but I would say we are just because it's not like we hate each other or anything like that.
